Hollywood has seen invasions by quite a diverse crowd of aliens in the last year. The tentacled beasts of Skyline, the mech-infused creatures of Battle: Los Angeles, the robotic threat of Transformers 3, the old fashioned gold miners of Cowboys & Aliens — extraterrestrials just love planet Earth (and hate humanity's guts).

While the trend of obliterating the world's population isn't slowing down, the latest entry is 'The Darkest Hour' that debuted its first trailer standing out in both design and location, with the action taking place primarily in Russia.

The Darkest Hour, produced by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov and starring Emile Hirsch, Olivia Thirlby and The Killing's Joel Kinnamen.

The movie showcases even more destruction of our favorite landmarks, this time by a group of invisible baddies who enjoy feasting on energy and whiplashing petty humanoids into oblivion.

How do you fight bolts of electricity? The trailer doesn't offer up too many answers, but flamethrowers are involved, so even if the logic doesn't click, it'll look cool.

Check out the trailer before The Darkest Hour hits theaters December 12, 2011.
